What is Keep it alive!?

Keep it alive! is a simple gaming app where users swipe their fingers across their device screen to clear obstacles and prevent them from reaching their adorable monster.

Rated for users ages 12 years and older, Keep it alive! features in-app purchases and advertisements.  This app can be downloaded from both the App Store and the Google Play Store.

When users first open the Keep it alive! app, they’re taken to a basic home screen. Keep it alive! features a static banner advertisement at the bottom of the screen as well as a video ad thumbnail in the middle of the screen, advertising another gaming app.

Players may opt to pay $2.99 via in-app purchase to remove the ads from the Keep it alive! app platform for more streamlined gameplay.

Beneath the basic menu options is also a hand with a pointed finger, showing players that they’ll need to slide their finger across their device’s screen to play Keep it alive! As for what users are keeping alive, they have the option of choosing either Monster or Circle skins -- unlocking additional options as users progress in gameplay.

The object of Keep it alive! is similar to early Atari games where players must clear falling objects before they reach their monster, thus “saving” their monster from being squished.

While the game is really a time-killer and extremely simplistic, it is fun to feel the smartphone’s haptics kick in, if enabled, while clearing blocks and other geometric obstacles as they fall.

Users can easily disable haptics on the Keep it alive! home screen by tapping the smartphone icon on the right-hand side of the screen under the settings menu (tap gear icon to access settings).

Referred to as using the “force,” players swipe their fingers across the screen, thus clearing a path and forcing debris out of the way of their adorable monster.

Gameplay is fast and furious, and those players opting to forego paying $2.99 to remove ads will find themselves bombarded with video ads between each game, many of which are interactive.

Is Keep it alive! safe for my kids?

Parents should be aware that Keep it alive! is an app created by the French game development company, Voodoo, and as such, the privacy policy for the app is in French. This app is safe for kids so long as parents are okay with the permissions.

However, the Keep it alive! app’s terms of use are listed on the website in both English and French.

It’s also essential for parents to be aware that the Keep it alive! app has access to the following areas on user devices:

  • Approximate location (network-based)
  • Precise location (GPS and network-based)
  • Read the contents of your USB storage
  • Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage

Parents should consider whether allowing a third-party app permission to access private information stored on a smartphone is worth downloading a simple, time-killing game that.

Frankly, many other games on the market are worthy of playing and require a bit more brain-power, that won’t request permission to access all corners of a phone.
