What is Google Home?

The Google Home app serves as a mobile control center or dashboard for Google Home Voice Assistant Speaker users, easily accessing their accounts and account information from mobile devices.

Those using the Google Home speaker as a hub for their smart home can use the Google Home app to control the settings and view the status of all synced smart devices. The Google Home app is free to download and use, and does not feature advertisements.

Google Home app acts as the hub and dashboard for all Google Home speakers, Chromecast and smart home devices and is required for device set up.

Google Home is to Google what Alexa is to Amazon. Free to use and download, the Google Home app is a great way to monitor children’s activity while away.

The app warns users during setup to “Give family and friends a heads up” about the device, continuing to state that “If others will be using your Google Home, let them know that their interactions with it will be stored in your Google account. You can view and delete that information”

Of course there is the option of not warning your children that their interactions with the device will be saved, as it is a great way to monitor activity.

Is Google Home safe for my kids?

This app is safe for kids with parental supervision and expectations in place. While the fact that Google Home app users can easily access records of activity with their Google Home Voice Assistant, there are a couple of details parents should be aware prior to using the Google Home system.

When users begin their Google Home setup, there is an option to select the check-marked box with the option to “Send Google Home device usage data and crash reports to Google.”

While parents may find it helpful to monitor the Google Home activity themselves, they may not feel comfortable sharing their usage and activity information with Google.

This is an option users should think about prior to setup, making sure they read each of the steps before hastily tapping the continue button.

Another Google Home feature that users should consider prior to even purchasing the system pertains to account information. The Google Home Voice Assistant relies on the main user’s personal information such as photos and shopping lists saved in their Google account to assist Google Home users.

This means that “anyone in speaking range can access this info.” It’s definitely important for users to consider whether they’re okay having their personal information so easily accessible.

While access to personal information is likely the main concern for adults, with the Google Home app there are a lot of benefits to using a virtual personal assistant, with an intuitive and easy setup app.

Not only can parents monitor their children’s activity with the Google Home Voice Assistant speaker through the log in the Google Home app but they can manage all of their smart home devices through that hub as well.
