What is GIPHY: GIF & Sticker Keyboard & Maker?

The GIPHY app lets users send and respond with GIFs of all types, whether it be a reaction GIF in a text message or Facebook post, or tweeting a sports GIF replay during a big game.

This app is available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store.  Is it rated for users 17 years of age and older.  It does not feature any in-app purchases or advertisements.

With a phonetically-spelled name, the GIPHY app is an enormous, searchable database of Graphics Interchange Files, or GIFs. A GIF is an animated graphic, typically hosted on a web page. 

GIFs are popular because they’re lossless files; files in which the information has been compressed in size without losing quality. The relatively small size of a GIF file enables users to seamlessly use the GIPHY app.

While the GIPHY app is free to download, users must register to create an account, enabling them save and share GIFs from the site. Users are given the option to register or sign in with their Facebook account, or enter a username, password and email address. 

Users have the ability to search GIPHY’s internal GIF archive via search bar, curated lists, or by category, such as Reactions, Entertainment, Sports, Stickers and Artists. 

Pop culture reigns supreme on the GIPHY app, allowing users to post GIFs of their favorite movie or television characters’ scenes, great plays by professional athletes and quick bytes of their favorites musicians. Enter a keyword, and a list of associated or tagged GIFs will populate the screen. 

Users can save select GIFs to their camera roll, text to friends, share through Facebook Messenger, post to Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, tweet to friends or send through email. GIPHY users can save a favorite GIF for later, simply by double tapping, or “stick” a sticker on top of a message by using a long press to peel and tapping to paste.

GIPHY recently partnered with social media giant Facebook, so users now have access to stickers and GIFs, enhancing the experience on the platform. 

In fact, GIPHY now features in all areas of Facebook and allows users to add animated lenses to their Facebook Live streams, thought bubbles for Facebook Camera, reaction GIFs users can search and post directly in comment threads, as well as GIFs through Facebook Messenger.
