What is Fallout Shelter?
Fallout Shelter is a video gaming app that is the mobile version of the popular video gaming franchise of the same name. After a nuclear fallout, players are tasked with building and maintaining a perfect underground fault and the community that lives in it.
The Fallout Shelter app is available for free download in the App Store and the Google Play Store. This game is rated for users 12 years of age and older and features in-app purchases.
When players first open this app, they are first asked to open and select a vault to oversee. After receiving their assigned vaults the game takes a few moments to give users a backstory and explain the object of the game. Players are asked to create and maintain a functioning vault community after a nuclear fallout has made it unsafe to be outside.
After this, users are given tutorial style directions to get started building their vault and arrows and text boxes help explain features and next steps to players in a clear and efficient way. After getting used to the main screen, users are able to select a variety of options such as building a room, checking out their dwellers (the people living in your vault), and monitoring the levels of need in your community. Also from the right-hand window, players can access the shop, adjust settings, check out the map, daily reports, and new objectives.
In-app purchases in this are for lunchboxes, pet carriers, and Mr. Handys, all of which help users advance further in this game. In-app purchases range in price from $0.99 to $99.99. This app has received great reviews in both app stores with almost a 5-star rating from both app stores. The only complaints that some users seem to have is that it is difficult to progress in this game without in-app purchases.
Is Fallout Shelter safe for my kids?
The Fallout Shelter gaming app is safe teens. Content-wise the theme may be a little mature for some younger users to understand but this game could also lend itself towards an introduction to nuclear history.
Otherwise this game is a single player and users will not have any opportunity to be in contact with other players and strangers.
In-app purchases will be something that parents will want to keep an eye on, though. Many games of this nature can become a bit of a waiting game and players may be tempted to utilize in-app purchases to continue playing. Parents may want to set spending expectations with their children before allowing them to play this game.
Parents also should keep an eye on how much time their children spend playing this game as tech addiction can easily become an issue. Overall, Fallout Shelter is a great mobile compliment to the original video games and can be fun game for teens who don’t mind being patient at times.
