What is Disney Magic Timer by Oral-B?
Disney Magic Timer is an app that turns developing healthy brushing habits into a game. Kids are rewarded for brushing their teeth thoroughly and for the correct length of time.
Disney Magic Timer is available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store and is rated for users of all ages. This app does feature in-app purchases and advertisements.
The app is free to download and install, but requires the purchase of specific Oral-B brand toothbrushes and toothpaste in order to function. After downloading and installing the app, kids use their device's onboard camera to scan in their brush and toothpaste.
Once they've checked in and the character on their toothbrush appears withing the app, a hidden picture is displayed on their screen. By moving the brush around in their mouth, they “clean” the screen and reveal the image.
After brushing for a complete two minutes and completely revealing the image, kids are issued a sticker for collection in a virtual album. Children need to brush at least twice per day in order to receive full credit for the day's brushing, with one half of a star added for each brushing session.
Possible Disney Magic Timer app characters are drawn from a range of Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel properties. The franchise characters available in this app include:

The app supports multi-child families, with the option to create character-branded profiles for each child and track their activity separately. Only one one child can use the app at a time.
Is Disney Magic Timer by Oral-B safe for my kids?
Disney Magic Timer is safe for children and has an E for Everyone rating from the ESRB. It is, however, a purely commercial product intended to market Oral-B products and Disney-themed toothbrushes, without which the app will not function appropriately.
Special bonuses can be unlocked by using Disney-branded toothpaste. At this time, there are no in-app prompts to ask parents for new toothbrushes in order to continue using the application.
The app also contains in-app advertisements for additional Disney properties.
Some parents report that the app behaves unpredictably, either by failing to scan toothbrushes or scanning them incorrectly. The latter case is possibly as much a feature as it is a bug, as children will be surprised by which character they're brushing with in each session. Application behavior is becoming more stable and predictable with each version, however.
Parents who are troubled by Disney's emphasis on encouraging and rewarding consumerism should avoid this app. Brushing your teeth with your child on a set schedule and modeling healthy dental care is a more effective way to teach and reinforce healthy habits.
