What is Azar - Video Chat?

Azar is a random video-chatting app that matches users up with others from around the globe.

The Azar app features both in-app purchases and advertisements and is rated for users 17 years of age and older. Azar can be downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store.

Azar is a friend discovery app that helps people across the world connect and interact. The app uses video, text and photos for users to communicate in real time. Azar makes meeting new people and breaking the ice easy with stickers, filters and frames that add pizzazz to the chats.

These effects are similar to the features on SnapChat and Instagram Stories. The developers designed the app to cross borders and cultural boundaries, and elements like hearts and thumbs-up help users build friendships.

When users first open the app they will be asked to give the app permission to use your video, voice and location. It then asks you to enter your birthdate and gender, and that’s it for signing up. You can also connect with Google or Facebook.

Azar has more than 100 million downloads and is available in 190 countries. It’s a straightforward app and is free to use, although it requires a membership to unlock premium features.

A membership costs $14.99 a month, and the premium features are quite basic, like using the rear camera and selecting the gender of the people you meet.

Azar was developed by Hyperconnect, Inc. and is currently the #3 communications app. As might be expected, some people complain of users sharing sexual imagery on the app. Moreover, it’s not uncommon to read reviews that say the app scams users out of money by requiring them to purchase a VIP membership to unlock basic features.

Is Azar - Video Chat safe for my kids?

The Azar friend discovery app is not safe for kids. The app can pick up your child’s location, making them easily identifiable to other users in the area. There is an option to choose the gender of the friends you meet, but if you leave the option open, most of the users are male.

A simple swipe to the left reveals a new video chat, so kids could see dozens of random strangers in a matter of minutes.

The video quality is great, but that could be a negative if users are sharing inappropriate content on the app. The fact that they can share photos adds another danger, as kids could be exposed to sexual or suggestive images and other misconduct.

Azar has a feature that translates texts and video calls, which is pretty nifty, but could also spell danger for young users because they’ll be able to read unseemly texts no matter the language.

Azar’s terms and conditions state that people can report misconduct and other users on the app, but that doesn’t mean your kids won’t have already seen it. The only age verification is entering a birth date, which kids can easily lie about.

The in-app purchases might seem appealing to younger users because they allow for better filtering options and premium features. Users can spend anywhere from $0.99 to $99.99 to unlock these benefits. Like SnapChat and Instagram, Azar exposes users to strangers on the Internet and can leave their identity and location out in the open. Parents should not let their kids download Azar.
